Warren Buffett is an American investor and philanthropist who remains chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. He is no longer Berkshire's chief executive.
He stepped down as chief executive but remained chairman. Berkshire appointed Greg Abel as his successor while Buffett stayed in the chairman's role.
Buffett studied at Columbia Business School because Graham taught there, then worked at Graham-Newman. Graham's focus on treating stocks as businesses and demanding a margin of safety became central to Buffett's approach.
His partnerships began buying shares in the struggling textile company, and Buffett took control in 1965. He later moved Berkshire into insurance and other businesses and became chairman in 1970.
Buffett is a value investor. His approach looks at the underlying business, uses market swings instead of fearing them, and insists on a margin of safety between price and value.
The nickname joins his long investment reputation with Omaha, the city where he was born and where Berkshire Hathaway is based.
No personal net-worth figure appears here. This page tracks Berkshire Hathaway's disclosed US-listed long positions, not Buffett's assets or every business, private investment, foreign security, cash balance, short position, or derivative owned by Berkshire.
The filing does not say who made each investment decision. The holdings belong to Berkshire's reported portfolio, so the page does not label every position as a personal Buffett pick.
No. The current-holdings and quarterly-changes sections show what Berkshire reported at quarter end, but 13Fs arrive later and omit much of the company. They are useful for studying disclosed decisions, not recreating Berkshire in real time.
He has pledged to give away more than 99 percent of it. He also helped establish the Giving Pledge, which asks very wealthy people to commit at least half of their fortunes to philanthropy.
